Not all of us (including me!) can go on a vacation right now. I thought I’d bring a little bit of Paris to you with my weekend inspiration.
When I was about 12 years old, I remember looking at a large art book at the local public library. The librarian came over to me and pointed to a picture on the page (it was a picture of a Van Gogh) and said “You know, young lady? You can actually see that in Paris.” Little did he know what an impression that made on my 12 year old brain. 8 years later, I found my way to Paris to see Van Gogh’s The Bedroom with my 2 own eyeballs. It was an experience I’ll never forget.
About 10 years after that, I found myself at Laduree on the Champs Elysees. It’s still the best pastry experience I ever had in my life. I’ve never seen such color, wonder, whimsy and flavor all in one place. I really felt like I was a character in Alice in Wonderland meets Coco Chanel. The best macarons in the world live at Laduree and they are serious to die for.
I’ve been to Paris a few times and it’s my favorite city to get lost in. It is one of my favorite things about traveling. I love getting lost just to find and discover new things. Some of my very best photography came from when I was lost. I remember taking a photo of street signs just so I could navigate my way back to the hotel, lol. Amongst others: finding where all the locals hang out, meeting a dog with Parisian attitude along the way, and walking down a roughly cobbled road only to find live jazz music. Love Paris.
